Weekend

This weekend has seemed pretty long compared to last week when I actually had three days off. I'm not sure why that is.

Yesterday I got my hair cut and highlighted. I haven't had that done since last October, so it was really needed. I ended up getting about three inches cut off so it feels a lot lighter and doesn't tangle nearly as much. It's funny how a few inches can make a difference when it comes to tangling.

We picked up series 4 of Wire In The Blood, which is a UK crime show that now has Simone Lahbib in it (Helen Stewart in series 1-3 of Bad Girls). It's pretty good but every 'episode' kind of has the same recipe for murder. Ah well... it's nice to see Simone in action again anyway.

Jules and I have decided to re-kick-start our diet/healthy eating again. We'll see how that goes. So far, so good two days into it. While her parents were here, we ate so much, most of it high in fat, etc. It's hard to get out of that habit again...

Still thinking on a title for my blog...

Hockey Talk

There is nothing better than the Edmonton Oilers beating the Calgary Flames in Calgary. What a crazy last five minutes of the game. Oilers still alive in the race... now all we need is Vancouver and Nashville to lose their remaining four games... *rolls eyes* Vancouver maybe, but Nashville... talk about an easy end of schedule!

Jules was watching the game with me. She's totally into it now. I never thought she'd ever like it, especially after I got hit in the face with the puck at the game last November that I'm still recovering from. Then again, I never thought her parents would like it either, but they had a blast at the game they went to when they visited. : )

Drowsy week

Wow, hours fly by, days fly by... what the heck is happening lately? I'm so tired... I napped when I got home yesterday and I think I'm going to nap again today.

Half way through Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on the Wii... I didn't play yesterday though because I needed to give the ol' arm a rest.

I've finally got Jules into enjoying hockey. She actually let me watch the last half of the game on TV last night. She kept yelling at me though when I started yelling at the players... oh well. Everyone knows yelling at the TV helps the team play better!!

Yay... guest-less

Yay... I got to sleep in my own bed for the first time in just over a week last night. It was sooooo nice. I actually felt rested when I woke up. Of course I wore myself out last night playing the Harry Potter game... I checked my playing time in the message board area before I turned the Wii off.... 3.5 hrs of playing. No wonder Jules was making fun of me. Ah well... I got into it and it seems like time flies once the Wii gets turned on!

Blog Title

I need to think of a new title for my blog. Re-Connect doesn't work anymore. That was for last year while trying to cope with my break-up. I need something new now....

Thank goodness for alcohol...

Oh my goodness.... this week has been trying. Julie's parents have been wonderful... Jules on the other hand... it's a good thing I'm in love with her...

Tonight alone, I've had four Guinness and a pint of Canadian. At least my neck isn't sore anymore. The previous five evenings I've had so much to drink, I don't even want to think about how much.

I rented the Harry Potter Wii game the other day. I played for about an hour and then spent all day yesterday nursing a sore forearm and hand from waving the controller around doing spells. It seems like a good game, but some of the spells are kind of tricky to do (and I don't like the ones you have to do with both the controller and nunchuck at the same time). We'll see how far I get before I have to return it on Monday.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad tomorrow is a stat holiday at work. I don't think I could drag my ass out of bed at 5:30 am one more time this week. We haven't been going to bed before midnight since Julie's parents have gotten here. I'm used to going to bed at 10 pm at the very latest. I can't wait to get back to that routine next week.

Tomorrow we drop her parents off at the airport around 5 pm. Right after that, we're heading over to my grandparents' place to celebrate my grandmother's 71st birthday. It'll be nice to see my kitties again... I miss being around Molly and Simon a lot. I don't miss the cat hair, but I miss their personalities and the snuggles, etc.

I figured out that I'm going to get about $2,500 on my tax return. Unfortunately, the damn government did not send me a tax package, so I need to find out whatever is on line 150 on my 2006 tax return in order to get a number to file online. I did that one on my sister's computer last year because she was the only one with a printer at the time, so I have to wait until I go over there to find it. It's frustrating because I want to file now!! The sooner I get that money, the sooner the balance on my Visa is paid off and the sooner my car is repaired (I need two new tires, struts, belts, etc.)

Work has been kind of stressful at times since my boss came back from maternity leave at the beginning of the month. I'm glad to have her back but at the same time, it's a lot of extra work because she needs to get caught up on things and that means a lot of meetings discussing current procedures and such. :/

I went to a dental specialist the other day to see about getting a tooth implant. I've been missing one of my molars since July 2001 and my teeth have decided to start moving around in the past year, causing lots of pain at times. Holy freakin' hell... because I waited so long to do this, I'll need a bone graft and all that.... so the total cost will end up being around $6,500! That much for one freakin' tooth!!! The sad thing is, is I'll probably have to do it. The other side of my mouth has a molar that has had a root canal but it's sore at times which leads me to believe that it's only a matter of time before it has to be removed altogether. :( I can't have both sides missing a molar.... I wouldn't be able to eat properly! :/ I guess it'll definitely be something to save up for...

Today I'm grateful for:

* Guinness
* The Weekend
* Stat holidays
* My family
* Tax Returns (y'know, when I can finally file... sigh)

Menu

This is what we've had for dinner since Julie's parents arrived:

Thursday - Fish and Chips
Friday - Fried chicken
Saturday - Roast beef
Sunday - Lasagna
Monday - Lobster, crap and shrimp
Tuesday - Harvey's (for me... they went to the Phoenix/Edmonton hockey game)
Tonight - Steak
Tomorrow - Roasted chicken

Holy cow... quite the change from what we usually eat! No wonder I feel like I've gained 10 lbs. Of course it doesn't help that we've been drinking a ton of wine and beer either...

Weekend of Eating

We've had a busy few days with Julie's parents visiting. We had my birthday party on Friday, dinner with Julie's boss and his wife on Saturday and then dinner with Ryan and his parents tonight. We've eaten so much and gone through so many bottles of wine, I can't believe I haven't fallen into a coma.

Tomorrow I go back to work... holy hell is it going to be hard waking up at 5:30 tomorrow morning. :(

Today I'm grateful for:

* My apartment
* My family
* Enough things to talk about with Julie's parents
* The Internet

30

Well, I'm now officially in my 30's...

Jules woke me up this morning by singing 'Happy Birthday'. I turned over in bed and saw she was holding a birthday cake with a '3' and a '0' lit on top. Needless to say, we had cake for breakfast. I decided we needed coffee to go with it so I went into the kitchen to start the kettle. On the kitchen table were 30 balloons blown up and a gift bag in the middle of them. Inside the gift bag? A Wii!!!!! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spent part of the morning setting up the Wii and playing some of the Wii Sports. Jules has been running around like crazy straightening up imaginary 'mess'. Around 3:30 this afternoon, her parents arrive from England! Eeeeeeeek!

I'm off to Future Shop for a new wireless router (and apparently groceries as she's now in distress about having enough food for an entire army).

So far, none of my family has called me to wish me a happy birthday. Very strange. I guess they're going to wait until tomorrow when we all go over to my parents' place for dinner. My family meeting Julie's parents. Eeeeeeeeek!

Today I'm grateful for:

* My sneaky girlfriend getting me a most unexpected Wii
* A day off
* My Wii
* My Wii
* Wii

Weekend

I had two good days with only a bit of chest congestion and coughing but now I've been slammed again with the achy, flu-like feeling with a sore throat. Ughhhhhhhh...... I hate this. I don't know how the heck I'm supposed to go to work tomorrow. :(

Yesterday, I finally got new brakes on my car. Apparently my front brakes were seized and the brake pads ended up glazed over (they're supposed to be dull and not polished to a mirror shine) That and a oil change cost $450. They gave me an estimate for the other stuff my car needs and it'll be about $1000. Yikes. I need two new tires and two new belts, struts, etc. Oh, and there is a fluid leak in the front. :\ My birthday gift is money to help with this stuff... Julie is not thrilled as it's not what she had in mind but when I told her my foot went to the floor when I tried to brake, she agreed that it was priority.

Sick *again*

I must have absolutely no immune system left. Two or three weeks ago I had that stomach thing that went around that had me off work almost three days and now I have the chest thing going around! I went to work this morning and tried to tough it out the rest of the day but I just couldn't. Coughing is painful... like my whole chest is being ripped up every time I try. I have that whole body ache thing going on and it's impossible to concentrate on anything. I'm just waiting for the NyQuil to kick in and then I'm going to sleep it off (although seeing how I slept about 11 hours last night, I'm not sure it'll work).

Alberta voted... big deal, no change.

Well, despite all the talk of change in Alberta, people voted to not only keep the conservative government in power, but to increase their majority! Holy cow... nobody saw that coming.

Decisions, decisions...

Okay, I've been given three choices for my birthday present:

1) A Wii

2) The bookshelves I really want but haven't gotten around to getting from Ikea

3) An 'experience'.

I'm not sure which to choose! If I chose the Wii, would I use it a lot or would it gather dust after a week? Do I really need new bookcases? What the heck would the 'experience' be?

In like a lamb... uh oh...

March already. Wow. It seems that months and years speed up as time passes... like life is on a downhill stretch now. Not that life is going 'downhill' or anything... at least not most of the time.

Jules bought me a book on turning 30. It's called Turning 30 - How to Get the Life You Really Want. I'm not sure I'll get to it before I actually turn 30 but I'll probably start it this month.

Tonight we're going over to a lesbian couple's house to play a game called Catchphrase or something. They contacted us on a lesbian site for friendship and seeing how we practically never socialize with anyone outside of my family or Ryan and his current boy, John, I think it'll be fun. Jules wanted to cancel twice already this week but I talked her out of it. She's not one for socializing... in fact she's in the kitchen right now, mumbling 'I hate going out, I hate going out... I'm not the type who likes going out... I hate going out...'. This surprised me when I found out because she's quite outgoing. Strange. Oh well, she set this play date up, we're frickin' going!

Today I'm grateful for:

* Warmer weather
* Potential new friends
* Finally getting my T-4 in the mail
* Merlot
* Tylenol
